First Shot of New Toyota Tundra

Is this the next Toyota Tundra pickup? It is if you believe one of our tipsters, who sent in this shot via the super-secret black-ops auto press leak network. It could be a pre-embargo shot of the Tundra, ahead of the Tundra's upcoming unveiling at the Chicago auto show next month. The sculpted hood is a dead ringer for that in the spy shot from earlier today, if that's any indication. We'll know more in a couple weeks.toyota tundra

Jonathn Punter is a 24-years old student at the Royal College of Art's Masters Vehicle Design course. For his final year project he designed a concept vehicle focusing on a futuristic family car with an interior optimised for social interaction between family members. His creation, the Daedalus Concept, has won the Royal College of Art's Best Overall Concept Car 2006 award and the ‘Best Design Interpretation Award’ at The Pilkington Vehicle Design Awards. Jonathan, who is a Bentley Motors-sponsored student, took four months to perfect the design of his concept car entry which was modelled using Maya from Autodesk and rendered using ARTVPS’ leading edge technology, RenderDrive. Commenting on the ideas behind his design, Jonathan Punter said: "The aesthetics of my design were based around the idea of natural systems." "The resulting vehicle is meant to represent the way a flower reacts to environmental conditions. I included seats in the vehicle which rotate to facilitate a family environment and which also maximise an individual’s personal space. Child mobility was also considered with the incorporation of seats that can be removed and used independently of the car." In order to optimise the demonstration of his design, Jonathan chose animation. Without access to the technology required to render and animate, he approached his contacts at Bentley Motors, for assistance. With additional support from ARTVPS, the team were able to render around 1,000 frames in less than two weeks and add a further dimension to the student’s entry. Richard Stevens, exterior designer at Bentley, said: “Having worked with Jonathan during his placement, it was great that he approached us to help with his end of year show. The ideas and design of the car were completely down to Jonathan, we just helped him add some extra magic to his entry. We’re over the moon that Jonathan went on to win what is a truly deserved award.” Brian Tyler, CEO at ARTVPS comments: “Congratulations to Jonathan on an exceptional design. Photorealistic rendering is becoming integral to a number of industries, particularly in automotive design and visualisation. It’s great that students are gaining hands-on experience and developing the skills they will later require in their chosen profession. We are delighted for Jonathan and pleased that ARTVPS technology enabled him to bring his design to life and create an award winning entry. We wish him all the best for his career.” According to Telegraph.co.uk, David Wilkie from Stile Bertone, one of the judges and a former RCA pupil, said: "What struck all of us was the overall effect of the development and research Jonathan had done, creating a new environment for a family. " It isn't just a car but a space to be in. We were also impressed with the use of a full glass panel down the side using electrochromic technology for both privacy and tint

Toyota Corolla 2009 2010

TOKYO (AP) – Toyota is looking into possible power steering problems with the hot-selling Corolla subcompact while its president said Wednesday he won’t be attending the U.S. Congressional hearing on the automaker’s safety lapses.

“I trust that our officials in the U.S. will amply answer the questions,” Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda told reporters. “We are sending the best people to the hearing, and I hope to back up the efforts from headquarters.”

He said Yoshi Inaba, who heads Toyota Motor Corp.’s U.S. unit, was more familiar with the U.S. situation and was the best man to deal with the hearing. Toyoda said he was still making plans to go to the U.S., but dates weren’t set.

But in an alarming disclosure of a possible widening of Toyota’s recall crisis, the Toyota executive in charge of quality controls, Shinichi Sasaki, said Toyota was taking seriously the complaints about problems in power-steering in the Corolla, the world’s best-selling car.

Toyota Rav4 lends 2010

When I first saw the Rav4, my first thought was "I want that car!". The Rav4 is the perfect picture of a sporty, trendy and adventurous car. It is appealing to a younger market though it certainly is not intimidating to the older crowd. It is not hard to picture the Rav4 parked outside a high-end boutique, a slammin' party at a college frat house or a quiet suburban neighborhood. This is a car for anybody and everybody. The thing that draws most people to the Rav4 is its great design and powerful engine.
The Rav4 lends fresh meaning to the mini-SUV concept. This car comes in either the 2-door or the 4-door version. With the 4-door, the Rav4 is capable of carrying 5 passengers and there is a big cargo well behind the rear seats. This is not just a practical car; the Rav4 is the definition of fun. What more could you want from a car? Aside from its ravishing looks and build, Toyota Parts Rav4 are in a variety of spectrum. The Rav4 definitely has the IT factor for not only does it respond to your basic car needs, like transporting luggage and cargo, it also completes your fashion statement!

Toyota RAV4 was a concept

2006_toyota_rav4_title.jpg

The Toyota RAV4 was a concept born in 1989. The moniker RAV4 means Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive. 5 years later, the first Toyota RAV4 was launched at the 1994 Geneva Motor Show. UMW Toyota is now offering the third generation Toyota RAV4 on our local shores. The previous two Toyota RAV4 compact SUVs were commonly called RAV4.1 (top left) and RAV4.2 (top right). The Toyota RAV4.2 was available here in CBU form through either UMW Toyota or through grey importers. Both three-door and give-door versions were available. Let’s have a look at the third generation five-door 2006 Toyota RAV4, or the RAV4.3, which comes to Malaysia in CBU form.

2006_toyota_rav4_5.jpg

Internationally, the Toyota RAV4 is offered with 2.0 I-4, 2.4 I-4 and 3.5 liter V6 gasoline engines in most countries that are large-displacement friendly, as well as two 2.2 liter D4D turbodiesel offerings. Our local CBU 2006 Toyota RAV4 comes with a 2.0 liter engine and an automatic transmission.

At first glance, the new 2006 Toyota RAV4 looks like a face-lift of the previous second generation version, although it seems that it has gained weight abit, in the right proportions. It also gets a new snout shape flanked by projector headlamps which reminds me of the Scion tC Coupe. The new 2006 Toyota RAV4 is 145mm longer then it’s previous incarnation, and cabin length has been increased by 85mm. The distance between the front and rear seats has been increased by 55mm. The width has also been increased by 80mm. This will allow more comfortable seating of 3 adults at the rear seats. As a whole, the interior volume has increased by 13%. Newly developed rear suspensions with diagonal positioning of shock absorbers also allow more luggage room because of minimal wheel arch intrusion. This allows a 230mm increase in luggage room width, making a total luggage space increase of 47%. Maximum luggage capacity with the rear seats folded flat is 1,459 liters.

The 2006 Toyota RAV4 is powered by a 2.0 liter VVT-i engine – the 1AZ-FE. This powerplant is a 1,998cc 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC electronic fuel injection engine featuring Toyota’s VVT-i variable valve timin technology for a smoother torque curve. The engine makes 152hp at 6,000rpm and 198Nm of torque at 4,000rpm, giving the 1,505kg car a nice spirited drive, though a 2.4 liter would be alot nicer.

The only available transmission is a 4-speed Super ECT automatic, with Active Torque Control (ATC) 4 Wheel Drive. Active Torque Control automatically controls the transfer of torque between the front and rear wheels, allowing seamless changes from front-wheel drive to four-wheel drive whenever the additional traction is needed. Remaining in front wheel drive in situations where 4WD is not needed will improve fuel efficiency. The front suspensions are MacPherson Struts while the rear suspensions are trailing type double wishbones. Brakes are 16 inch ventilated discs at the front, and the rears are solid discs. The car rides on 225/65/R17H tyres wrapping nice 17 inch alloy wheels.

2006_toyota_rav4_1.jpg

The 2006 Toyota RAV4 gets a nice grey and silver and beige interior colour scheme, with a sporty 3-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel. I personally would have preferred if it was dark grey, light grey and silver but as a premium SUV, it’s target market normally prefers some beige or cream in their interior. The dashboard meters are of the Optitron variety naturally, which self-illuminates, allowing for a clearer display with less glare. This eases the strain on the driver’s eyes. Air conditioning is a digital system with ample outlets, and there are even foot outlets for the rear passengers.

2006_toyota_rav4_2.jpg

The Audio System is a 2-DIN system that plays MP3 and WMA, and is hooked up to a 6-disc changer. It’s design complements the dashboard design, but since it is of the standard 2-DIN variety you can change it to a better player if you want. The audio system comes with 6 speakers standard.

As with all Toyotas, the 2006 Toyota RAV4 has a GOA certified body. There is an abundance of airbags in this SUV, with dual front airbags and side airbags for the front row. There are also curtain shield airbags for the front and rear passengers. The driver also gets a special knee airbag. I told you there were plenty! Other than 4WD for improved traction, the car also has anti-lock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution. The 2006 Toyota RAV4 is also equipped with Vehicle Safety Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC), down-hill assist control and hill-start assist control. Remember the Toyota Landcruiser VX commercial featuring Toyota’s down-hill assist?

2006_toyota_rav4_3.jpg

Being a CBU fully imported from overas, the new 2006 is certainly not cheap. But it’s a real Toyota world car, and has an impressive feature list. The 2006 Toyota RAV4 will cost you a whopping RM203,400.00 for individual private registration in Peninsular Malaysia. For those living in Langkawi and Labuan, it will cost you RM93,282.50

While no engine tweaks have been mentioned, the drop in weight means the Toyota-sourced 3.5-litre V6 has a lot less mass to move thus performance has been significantly boosted. Be on the look-out for a production version of the Evora Carbon Concept in the not-too-distant future.
